The Bhagavad Gita श्रीमद् भगवद् गीता
Verse 1.1
Bhagavad Gita Verse 1.1
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः ।
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किम् अकुर्वत संजय ।।
How does it fare between my right and my left leanings? How goes it between Father and Son? Between Brothers? Between Husband and Wife? Between Employer and Employee? Between the King and his Commander? Between a teacher and his student? Between night and day?
Notice that:
1 the Q is asked by a King, ie one very well off materially.
ie one with intelligence, commanding power and resourceful.
2 the Q is asked in his palace, ie in a comfort zone.
like we make our living room fit for ideas to flow.
One rather strange irony of life is the "accepted notion that knowledge flows from high to low", that one who "has" gives.
On the contrary it is NOT possible to get anything from the high and mighty.
neither from a "more mature" nor from a "respectable personality" humans have never gotten the TRUTH.
None hath learnt from an elder, none hath gained when an aura of "i know more" exists.
In the laws of physics that are inviolate natural laws, power transfer is possible only in a perfect match situation. For the highest wisdom to flow an inclined plane is the most flawed setting. It is something that a distilled mind knows, it is also called "a level playing ground".
a famous but oft forgotten and rarely used in India but very well used in America is the saying "hire those who are most qualified and brilliant even though you shall have to pay them more than your own salary !!!"
So in the Gita, the Q is posed by a king to his charioteer who is the embodiment of Dharma, ie to an employee who is certainly more wise than oneself.
And it is being asked in a relaxed setting.
And it is about the most direct straight forward truth.
The Q is -
What happens between good and evil?
I wish to know because my tendency is slightly off center.
I am more inclined towards the pleasurable.
So please tell me what (will ) happen, what happens when i go after pleasure?
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे
Because my gut feeling knows the field of Dharma, because my conscience senses the Natural Laws, because i am aware just a bit about it, Dharmashetra,
yet i am more propelled by my senses towards the Kurushetra, the excitements and sights and sounds and revelry.
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
Notice that blindness herein refers to ignorance, lack of vision, lack of clarity in aim. Blindness simply refers to a Lack. Sometimes it also means over ego or over smartness or stubbornness.
समवेता युयुत्सव:
desirous of colliding together.
desires meeting to resolve supremacy.
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव
electrons and protons...
night and day
girl and boy
left and right
mine and they
pleasure and correctness
desires and insights
किम् अकुर्वत
what happened?
what goes?
so tell me the news
what is new?
संजय
one who maintains poise in victory.
the unruffled one.
one who sees beyond (and hence stays calm).
